Magazine contents page analysis.

The Rolling Stones Magazine

This issue of Rolling Stones magazine features two dominating colours that are used throughout this contents page, they are black and red. The title of the page is 'RS1172/173' as formatted in the quotation, this shows use of both dominant colours and the writing is large and clear at the top of the page, it stands for Rolling Stones and then the issue number follows. Despite not having a title that blatantly says 'contents' it is evident that it is a contents page through the way it is formatted and it features a speech marks of someone saying "All the NEWS THAT FITS" which suggests it is briefly showing you what they have put into the magazine and where it is, what a contents page is meant to do. The contents of the magazine is put into a column on the left side of the page, opposing that on the right side is a subject that seems to be largely focused on, the subject being 'The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time.'

Vibe Magazine

This issue of Vibe magazine features a dark approach when looking at the background and the suit that Eminem is wearing. The burgundy background works well in collaboration with the dark suit as it gives off a sincere feel to it, the pose that Eminem has adopted in this also follows the feeling of sincerity. This contents page is very basic and doesn't feature a blatant title to suggest it is a contents page, however the format and the list of features in the magazine that accompany numbers make up for this and make it obvious that it is. The colours used in this are; white, orange and grey. The white is used to boldly state the features to attract attention and the subtitles are wrote in orange to separate what features are in the magazine from their description. The descriptions are all wrote in grey and a large section is listed to point any reader in the right direction for a specific feature.

XXL Magazine

This issue of XXL magazine features three main colours in its approach to the contents page, these are; grey, black and white. XXL have taken a dark approach to this contents page, Dr. Dre stands to the left side with the features written to the right of him. The features are wrote upon Dre's shadow which is taller than him which shows the light is beneath him coming from a low angle. XXL have featured a quote from Dre which is used because it is what the audience want to hear, the audience want to know that artists are in this industry because they enjoy it and want to satisfy their fans rather than being in it for money. The title is bold and in black font, the features of the magazine are written on the right side, the numbers are wrote in the same black bold font and the title of each feature is written in the same bold font but alternates to being white. The descriptions of each feature is written in a different shade of grey to the background to make sure it is visible, yet effective when used on this specific background.
